THE POWER OF NOW – Eckhart Tolle

Being the second book from the author that I have read (A new earth, the earlier one) it is more than impressive. A must read, clarity on the topic and the writing makes it easy to accept.

The phrase, “taking one day at a time” is often used when someone is going through difficult life situation. This has to become a practice in everyday living as well. Not one day at a time rather one moment at a time and giving our complete presence, our best to the moment.

Now, is as good as saying, This moment, no not the one that passed instead this moment. No not that one instead this one moment is life.’

This one moment called life has all the goodness in stored. The creative power acts on the present and has a bearing on the future. The author also teaches us to accept the situations through our being, through our presence. Take action, speak up to bring about a change not just as reaction to what is said and done.

There is no need to wait for the dissolution of pain in any form. Recognise it, and decide if anything can be done about it. Often unnecessary drama, (emotional ones) persist when one tries to resist it and at the same time makes it as a means to an end.

Even while we converse with ourselves we can identify two I’s one of it being the ego-centric and the other originating from the being, (being the real one) and then there is the consciousness which is observing the thinker. Rightful thinking and action in accord to it are necessary whenever whosoever is involved in thinking. Equally important is the silence and the space. There is nothing existing without these two (consider the atomic orbital structure, the quietness between every sound however loud or continuous!). It speaks of the balance.

Practicing the now (mindfulness) is one of the intense ways to simplify our lives, to be at peace and is primordial in achieving wellbeing.
